DigiGen’s scientific and public engagement- examples of the team’s activities during the past six months

02/12/2021

In the last six months of the project, there has been a growing body of preliminary findings from each of the research areas. As a result, it has been important to continue to engage in dissemination activities to share our findings to key stakeholders from the research community, to policy, practice and more.

It has been a busy time for the DigiGen team, but below we have listed a few examples of the numerous activities from the last six months:

  • High level meeting with the Norwegian Children’s Ombudsman

The Oslo Met team had the opportunity to bring DigiGen preliminary findings to the Norwegian Children’s Ombudsman alongside other political parties and institutions. This is a great chance to advocate for strong rights respecting policy based on our research.

  • Safer Internet Forum 2021

Sara Ayllón, from the University of Girona, spoke on the topic of ‘Digital Deprivation’ at the Safer Internet Forum 2021. This is a large scale annual event with attendees from across the policy, research, and practice fields.

  • Policy seminar on developing the new European Strategy for a Better Internet for Kids

Halla Holmarsdottir represented DigiGen in the CO:RE Policy Webinar which brought together different EU projects focusing on the impact of digitalisation on children and young people to discuss how we can bring our findings into the new BIK strategy.

  • German Digitalisation Education Conference

Birgit Eickelmann and Olaf Kapella presented DigiGen results from WP5 ‘ICT in education’ and WP3 ‘ICT use in family life’ at the ‘Digitalisation Education Conference/Konferenz Bildung Digitalisierung 2021’. The conference allowed the interactions between these work packages to be fleshed out and discussed further.

  • Romanian DigiGen conference on ‘Digital Trends’

The Romanian team organised a one-day online conference to take stock of the first two years of the DigiGen project and present the preliminary results with the Romanian research community.

  • COFACE Families Europe Policy and Advocacy Session

COFACE organised a policy and advocacy session focusing on ‘Parent-Child Relationships in the Digital Era’. Olaf Kapella and Merike Sisask presented findings from WP3 ‘ICT in family life’ and Better Internet for Kids Youth Panellists shared their reflections on the topic. The session brought DigiGen research directly to policy makers and practitioners at European and national levels.

  • European Parliament Child Rights Intergroup Reception

Elizabeth Gosme connected with HRH Countess of Wessex and other European civil society organisations at the UK Ambassador’s residence in Brussels. She spoke on the interaction between DigiGen research and tackling child sexual exploitation and abuse, notably in the online environment.
