Involving children and young people as co-researchers through digital diaries

11/05/2021

How is the digital transformation affecting the leisure time of children and young people across Europe?

In DigiGen we involve children and young people as co-researchers. One of the tools we use to do this are digital diaries. The digital diary is downloaded by our co-researchers as an app to their mobile phones.

Through this digital diary our co-researchers provide data on digital activities and make observations on digital experiences. For example by sending images or answering questions about their time online. This allows us to see the world through their eyes and compare young digital lives across Europe.

Who is it for?

The app is currently being used to explore how the digital transformation affects the leisure time of children and young people aged 10 – 15 in Austria, Greece, Norway, Romania and the UK.

If you have already signed up or are interested in participating as a co-researcher, you can find more information in national languages on our children and young people as co-researchers page.

The collection of data through the digital diaries is part of our research in the leisure time focus area. Find more information on our four focus areas here.
